Sick
Well, Ryder has had his first "big" sickness. Last night he came down with a fever and instead of getting better throughout the day he got worse. All of our thermometers were telling me that his fever was 104.8 (temporal) or 106.9 (forehead) or 102.6 (under arm). All different, all high, and he felt/looked like he was burning up. His heart rate was fast and it worried Jonathan and I that his fever was so high and he seemed worse than he did in the morning. Plus, anything to do with his heart and I am horribly paranoid that he will have heart problems. So we decided to take him to the Pediatric Urgent Care since it was too late to go to our regular pediatrician. Their thermometer said 103.4 and they add one degree to that so his temperature was 104.4 F. He also had a really bad sore throat so the doctor decided to check for strep throat. That was negative so they decided it would be best to do blood work to determine if it was viral or bacterial. The blood work indicated that it was bacterial and that the infection had moved into his blood and he now had a blood infection in addition to the sore throat and fever. UG. The doctor said that back in the day kids with this would have to be hospitalized to receive fluids to fight the infection. Luckily they now have a shot that is a strong dose of antibiotics and does the wonders minus the hospital stay. THANK GOODNESS. Ryder got the shot, he screamed and I teared up (because I could tell it REALLY hurt Ryder). Tomorrow we have to go back for another wonder shot unless he is way better than he was today. Even if he is better he will be on antibiotics for the next 10 days. My poor little guy is a puddle. He nursed and/or was latched all day, hasn't hardly eaten, and looks just miserable. My butt is numb from sitting and holding him all day. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day because I hate seeing my little love so sick!
